Community Guidelines

The behaviour that keeps Velus worth reading: candour, generosity and respect for the person on the other side of the screen.

Last updated August 7, 2026

Anonymity on Velus is protection, not permission. It exists so people can be honest about pay, management, burnout and difficult decisions without professional risk. These guidelines keep that protection intact.

Write to help one person

  • Answer the question that was actually asked.
  • Say what you would tell a colleague you respect.
  • Be specific — numbers, timelines and trade-offs help more than encouragement.
  • It is fine to disagree. It is not fine to be dismissive.

Protect anonymity

  • Never try to work out who wrote something, and never speculate publicly.
  • Do not repost private conversations that identify someone.
  • Redact names, employers and identifying details from screenshots and documents.

Keep it accurate

  • Distinguish what you know from what you have heard.
  • Do not present opinion about law, contracts or compensation as fact.
  • Correct yourself when you are wrong; nobody loses reputation for that.

What is not allowed

  • Harassment, discrimination or targeted abuse.
  • Doxxing or any attempt to identify a member.
  • Recruitment spam, product pitches and undisclosed promotion.
  • Deliberate misinformation, especially about pay or legal matters.

Reporting

Every perspective and reply has a report action. Reports are read by a human, the reporter's identity is never shared with the person reported, and you will be told the outcome.

Consequences

First breaches usually end in a removed post and an explanation. Repeated or serious breaches end membership. Reputation earned unfairly is removed with it.
