Velus exists so professionals can speak candidly. That is only possible if members trust how their information is handled. This policy explains, in plain language, what we hold and what we do with it.
What we collect
- Account details: your email address and, if you sign in with a provider, the identifier that provider returns.
- Professional context: your role, industry, career level, years of experience, country and areas of expertise. This is what the community sees.
- Content you create: perspectives, replies, knowledge you share and rooms you join.
- Product signals: which pages load and which features are used, in aggregate, so we can improve the experience.
What the community sees
Discussions on Velus are anonymous by design. Other members see your professional context — for example "Senior Engineer, 9 years, Technology" — never your name, email or employer, unless you deliberately publish it on your profile.
What we never do
- We never sell member data.
- We never share your email address with other members.
- We never link your identity to a specific anonymous perspective for anyone outside the small team required to handle abuse reports.
- We never run third-party advertising trackers.
Legal basis and retention
We process account data to provide the service you asked for, and product signals on the basis of legitimate interest in improving it. Account data is kept while your account is open. When you delete your account, personal identifiers are removed; contributions may remain in anonymised form so that conversations others relied on stay intact.
Your rights
- Access a copy of the data associated with your account.
- Correct anything inaccurate from your profile at any time.
- Delete your account and its personal identifiers.
- Object to product analytics processing.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, access is restricted to what each part of the system needs, and authentication is handled by a managed provider rather than rolled by hand.
