  • Give the situation: company size, industry, market and stage.
  • Say what you have already tried or already been offered.
  • Ask one question, not five.
  • Say what a useful answer would look like to you.

“Is 3,200 fair for a mid-level product designer at a 40-person SaaS company?” gets answered. “Is my salary fair?” does not.
